This Privacy Policy describes how Darcy Li ("we", "us", or "our") handles information in connection with the Android application Statusly ("App").
This App is intended for users who are 18 years of age or older. We do not knowingly market the App to children.
1. Summary
Statusly is designed to help users view, scan, and save WhatsApp or WhatsApp Business status media that has already been viewed by the user and is available locally on the user's device.
The App is designed to process status media locally on the device for core saving features. We do not sell user data. We do not use the App to read chat messages.
The App also uses third-party advertising and analytics services (Google AdMob and Firebase Analytics) as described below. Where required by law, the App presents a consent flow for ads and related data uses.
2. Information the App Accesses
Depending on how you use the App, the App may access the following categories of data stored on your device:
- User-selected file and folder access data
The App asks you to authorize access to a folder through Android's system file picker. This authorization is used only to locate and read WhatsApp or WhatsApp Business status media stored on your device. - Media files
The App may access image and video files from the WhatsApp or WhatsApp Business status directory after you grant access. The App may create copies of media files in your device gallery when you choose to save them. - App configuration and local history
The App may locally store information such as the folder access permission reference you granted and a local history of saved items to support App functionality. - Basic device and app operation data
The App may temporarily process file metadata such as file name, media type, URI, and modified time in order to display and manage status items inside the App. - Advertising and analytics-related data
When ads or analytics are enabled, third-party SDKs may process device and app interaction data such as advertising ID (where permitted), app version, coarse device information, ad interactions, and app usage events.
3. Information the App Does Not Access
The App is not designed to:
- read WhatsApp chat messages;
- read message content from chats;
- access your contacts list for App functionality;
- collect precise location data;
- collect payment data;
- collect health data;
- collect microphone or camera recordings through the App;
- sell personal or sensitive user data.
4. How We Use Information
The App uses the accessed information only for the following purposes:
- to scan user-viewed WhatsApp or WhatsApp Business status media stored locally on the device;
- to display image and video previews inside the App;
- to allow you to save selected media to your device gallery;
- to maintain locally stored App state, such as folder authorization references and saved history;
- to display ads through Google AdMob;
- to measure App usage and feature performance through Firebase Analytics;
- to troubleshoot and improve App functionality where permitted by law.
5. Data Sharing
We do not sell, rent, or trade personal data.
Status media scanning and saving are intended to remain on the user's device. The App uses third-party services that may receive limited device and usage data:
- Google AdMob (Google LLC) — ad serving and measurement. See Google Privacy Policy.
- Firebase Analytics (Google LLC) — aggregated app usage analytics. See Google Privacy Policy.
These providers process data under their own terms and privacy policies.
We may disclose information only if required to do so by applicable law, regulation, legal process, or enforceable governmental request.
6. Data Storage and Retention
The App is designed to store certain operational data locally on your device, including:
- the folder access grant reference you choose to provide through Android's system picker; and
- local saved-item history needed for App features.
Saved media that you choose to download is stored on your device until you delete it.
Local App data remains on your device until:
- you remove it through App actions, where available;
- you revoke the App's file access permission through Android system settings;
- you clear the App's storage; or
- you uninstall the App.
We do not claim that remote copies of locally stored status media are retained by us. Advertising and analytics providers may retain data they collect according to their own retention schedules.
7. Security
We take reasonable steps to help protect information handled by the App. The App uses Android system mechanisms, including the system file picker and platform storage APIs, to limit access to data needed for core functionality.
However, no method of storage or transmission is completely secure. You are responsible for keeping your device secure and reviewing the permissions you grant to the App.
8. Your Choices and Controls
You can control the App's access and stored data in several ways:
- You may choose whether or not to grant folder access.
- You may revoke granted access through Android system settings at any time.
- You may delete saved media from your device gallery at any time.
- You may clear the App's local storage through Android settings.
- You may uninstall the App at any time.
- Where available, you may manage ad consent in Settings → Ad privacy choices or through the in-app consent prompt.
- You may reset your device's advertising ID or limit ad personalization through Android system settings.
9. Third-Party Services
The current App build includes:
- Google AdMob — app open, interstitial, and native ads;
- Google User Messaging Platform (UMP) — ad consent management where required;
- Firebase Analytics — app usage analytics.
If we add or materially change third-party services that handle user data, this Privacy Policy will be updated and the effective date revised.
10. International Users
If you use the App in a jurisdiction with specific privacy rights (including the EEA, UK, or Switzerland), you may have rights under applicable local law. The App provides consent and privacy controls where required for advertising.
11. Adults Only / Age Information
The App is intended for users aged 18 and older. We do not knowingly target children. If you believe that a child has provided personal information through the App in violation of applicable law, please contact us so we can review the issue.
12. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in the App, legal requirements, or operational practices. If we make material changes, we will update the "Effective date" above.
